Law Firm Website

For a law practice a website is an information resource, not a client-acquisition tool. The Turkish Bar Association advertising rules prohibit promotional statements, exaggerated claims and certain titles. The site is built within those limits: practice areas, team and contact details presented plainly.

Law Firm Website

A law firm website presents practice areas, the team and contact details within professional conduct rules. It is not structured for sales like other sectors, because the profession's regulation restricts any activity aimed at attracting work.

What the Advertising Ban Says

The Turkish Bar Association's advertising regulation governs a lawyer's online presence in detail. The main limits:

  • Search engine keywords are limited to the lawyer's name, the firm or partnership name, the city and registered bar, plus the words for lawyer, law, justice, defence, claim, equality and rights
  • Links and redirects aimed at obtaining work or creating unfair competition are prohibited
  • Only the title of lawyer and academic titles may be used; retired judge, retired prosecutor or expert witness titles may not
  • Promotional statements about earnings, lifestyle or the practice are not allowed

On a breach, the bar first sends a warning giving 15 days to correct it; if it is not corrected an investigation follows. Copy is therefore written within these limits from the start. The final assessment belongs to your own bar association.

What the Site Contains

Practice areas such as family, employment, criminal, commercial and enforcement law, a firm introduction, a team page, contact details, a map and an appointment request form. An articles section can be added for published commentary and legislative notes.

What It Does Not Contain

Case win counts, success rates, client lists, client testimonials, fee announcements and competitor comparisons are left out. These carry regulatory risk and can lead to disciplinary proceedings.

Content and Visibility

Because keyword use is restricted, aggressive search optimisation is not advised on these pages. Visibility comes mainly through the firm's own name, its city and the informative content it publishes, which is the compliant and sustainable route.

Technical Setup

The site is mobile-friendly, fast and served over SSL. Contact form submissions are delivered by email, with a privacy notice and consent record in place. No client data is stored on the site.

Questions about Law Firm websites

Does a law firm website breach the advertising ban?
The regulation does not prohibit having a website; it restricts the content. A site is fine as long as it carries no promotional claims, exaggerated promises or work-seeking redirects.
Which keywords may we use?
Under the regulation: the lawyer's name and surname, the firm or partnership name, the city and registered bar, plus the words for lawyer, law, justice, defence, claim, equality and rights.
Can we list our practice areas?
Listing practice areas plainly for information purposes is common practice. Statements claiming superiority or success are avoided.
Can we add client testimonials or a client list?
No. Client lists, testimonials and references to cases won are treated as advertising and are left out.
Can I use my retired judge title on the site?
The regulation prohibits titles such as retired judge, retired prosecutor or expert witness. Only the lawyer title and academic titles may be used.
Can we publish our fees?
Fee announcements carry advertising and unfair competition risk and are not recommended. Fees are discussed directly with the client.
Can we run a blog or articles section?
Publishing informative legal content is possible. It must not be aimed at obtaining work and must not comment on ongoing matters.
Does the contact form create a data protection issue?
The form is built with a privacy notice and consent record, submissions are delivered by email and no client data is stored on the site.
How long does the site take?
The 5-page corporate package goes live in 7 business days, the 10-page professional package in 10 business days.
How much does a law firm website cost?
The price depends on page count, number of practice areas and whether an articles section is needed. Prices exclude VAT.
